When it comes to my own food intake, like many other aspects of life, it’s all about balance. For my friends to even hear me say the word “diet” would make them chuckle (or let’s be honest, fall to the floor laughing), because they know how much I obsess over a good burger. However, today I feel healthier than I have ever been and that is thanks to listening to what my body needs to make it function and stay happy. I achieve this by indulging in that slice of pizza, then balancing it out with a fresh salad for the next meal. Food for me is a passion; it brings me joy. Even the healthy stuff! I love to travel, try new things and never cheat myself from certain cravings. Being healthy means something different to everyone, and that’s how it should be.
Today we find ourselves amidst one of the healthiest generations ever. As a focus on wellness continues to be on the rise, so do the number of diet trends and workout routines. While it’s easy to get caught up in what Dr. Oz is calling the newest and easiest diet plan to get you ready for your Summer bod, for example, it’s important to stay focused on what works for you individually. Maybe you are vegan, or forced to cut gluten out of your diet due to an allergy. Maybe the Shred It plan has been working wonders, along with a juice cleanse on a bi-weekly basis. Whatever it is, I think it is of utmost importance to listen to what your body needs and what makes it (and in return you) happy.
I am hardly an expert on diet tips, but what I have learned overall is how important it is to take care of myself physically. For in return, I am unconsciously taking care of myself mentally. To me, there is nothing healthier or more satisfying. Listen to what you need in each moment, and do what you need to do to create your most balanced self.
