Before noon, I’m sure I’ve poured, lathered, and sang my favorite song in countless gallons of water. Literally, countless because I’ve never stopped to count and measure how much water I’ve consumed. I’ve never wondered or stressfully asked myself, “Will the faucet run dry today?”
For the last 9 years, I have been gluten-free post Celiac diagnosis. For the last 10 years on-and-off I have been vegan/vegetarian. Why you ask, would I willingly give myself so many dietary restraints? Isn't life difficult enough without severely limiting my options when it comes to what I am eating?
It took me a long, long time to pinpoint what I would like to do for the rest of my life. Even now, I cannot define the answer in black and white. But twenty years of education finally led me to the conclusion that my favorite subject was not something directly taught in school, or on the soccer field, or anywhere else.
Contrary to what we may believe as children, growing up comes with no guide book, no roadmap, no single right way. Often times, finding a way in this world requires us getting out of our own way.
